Bogotá sits at about 2,640 metres and stays cool all year (Wikivoyage). The farms these tours visit are lower down in Cundinamarca, in towns such as Fusagasugá to the south-west or Choachí on the far side of the eastern mountains. So a coffee tour from the capital is always a day trip, and the useful question is how many of its hours you actually spend on the farm.

Farm and waterfall in one trip

Beyond Colombia pairs a coffee farm with the viewpoint over the Tequendama Falls and keeps the group to ten at most. The shared hotel transfer, the farm entrance, a coffee liqueur and food are included. The listing does not name the farm; one reviewer names Hacienda Coloma in Fusagasugá. A German guest summed it up as too much travel time for the experience, and another felt the driver-guide added little because the farm staff led the coffee part. Take it if you want the waterfall as well and do not mind a long day in the vehicle.

A working day in Choachí

The True Colombian Experience starts at the Cranky Croc hostel in La Candelaria and drives east over the mountains to Choachí. Wikivoyage puts the village about 50 minutes from Bogotá by car; one reviewer counted an hour and a half on the winding road. Reviewers name the farm as La Campesina, an organic farm run by women. You join in the seasonal work, brew coffee in an olleta and take 125 g of coffee home, with breakfast and lunch included. The day lasts about seven hours and needs at least two guests, and the price shown can belong to another option or group size, so check the per-person amount on the booking page.

Hacienda Coloma and Finca El Vergel

Gran Colombia Tours runs a day to Hacienda Coloma in Fusagasugá, about an hour and a half from the city according to Wikivoyage. You choose between a shared option without lunch and a private one with lunch. One guest found the car small for three people and the guide’s English weaker than on other tours. City Bus Colombia goes to Finca El Vergel and makes the longest day of the four, starting at Parque 93 or with a hotel pickup. The listing is not consistent about lunch. One reviewer spent almost four hours on the way back in Bogotá traffic, another had a driver who did not speak English and joined an English group only at the farm.

Short on time in Bogotá?

If a full day out of the city does not fit, a farm visit works better from Salento or Medellín, where the farms are close to town. Our Salento page has tours of about an hour and a half on the farm itself.

Guests on the day trips from Bogotá

The farm visits themselves are well liked. The critical voices are almost all about the time in the vehicle and the transport: a long drive, a small car, a driver without English.

“Both the driver guide and coffee farm guide were absolutely amazing! They were very knowledgeable, providing a lot of interesting information and answering all my additional questions. We loved the waterfall stop, highly recommend adding it to the tour! …”
Elena · Dominican Republic · Aug 2026 Farm and Tequendama Falls · Beyond Colombia
“We had a great tour at the coffee farm. The only downside was the 1 1/2 hour drive on the winding mountain road, but that could not be avoided. Once we got there everything was great!”
Wendi · United States · Sep 2026 Farmer for a day near Bogotá · The True Colombian Experience
“I was in the van for most of the day and the driver didn't speak English ( I thought it was an English speaking tour) we sat in silence for hours. I was able to join an English tour at the farm and that was great but the drive was very long and boring.”
Connie · United States · Apr 2025 Finca El Vergel from Bogotá · City Bus Colombia
“This trip was fine, but did not feel worth the money. We were picked up in a very small car for 3 people. Our guide's English was okay, but not as good as other tours we booked. …”

FAQ

Are there coffee farms near Bogotá?

Not in the city itself, which lies at about 2,640 metres. The farms visited on day trips are in Cundinamarca, for example in Fusagasugá or Choachí, and reaching them takes a good part of the day.

How long is a coffee tour from Bogotá?

Between seven and ten hours including the drive. On the tour with the Tequendama Falls one reviewer counted about six hours on the road and three on the farm.

Which Bogotá coffee tour includes hotel pickup?

The Tequendama tour includes a shared hotel transfer, and the Finca El Vergel tour picks up at hotels or starts at Parque 93. The Choachí farmer day starts at the Cranky Croc hostel in La Candelaria.

Is the Choachí coffee tour a half-day trip?

No. It lasts about seven hours including the drive over the mountains, so plan the whole day for it.

Do the tours include lunch?
