A pickup changes the day more than the farm does. Around Salento the alternative is a Willys jeep from the main square that you pay yourself, in Medellín a metro and cable car ride to a meeting point. The tours here collect you instead, or start at a fixed point in the city with the transport to the farm included.

Where and when each tour collects you

  • D’Arrieros picks up in El Poblado, in Laureles or at the Metropolitano stadium for its six-hour day in Palmitas, about 45 minutes from the city.
  • La Arrinconada collects from hotels in El Poblado and Laureles between 8:40 and 9:00. A guest describes the pickup as a small city tour while the van collected the others.
  • Gran Colombia’s private Salento tour picks you up in town and takes you to the farm in your own Willys, according to one guest.
  • Impulse Travel collects from your hotel in Salento for the El Ocaso visit; lunch is not included, and Colombian VAT is charged on top.
  • The Choachí day from Bogotá starts at the Cranky Croc hostel in La Candelaria. The listing names hotel pickup as not included; the transport leaves from that meeting point.

What the pickup does not tell you

Shared pickups mean waiting for other guests on the way out and on the way back. On the Palmitas farm days the same van often collects several hotels, and reviewers of La Arrinconada describe waiting before the tour started. One guest on a Medellín farm day also found the car old, without air conditioning and with loud music. In Salento, a guest on the Impulse tour had to leave before the end because the driver came early. Build some slack into the rest of the day.

More tours with transport on this site

Other regions have pickups too, listed on their own pages. From Bogotá, the trip to the Tequendama Falls includes a shared hotel transfer and Finca El Vergel collects at hotels or at Parque 93; see the Bogotá coffee tours. In Medellín, the seed-to-cup tour with a roastery picks up in El Poblado, Envigado and Itagüí (Medellín coffee tours). The Minca hiking day collects at four points in Santa Marta (Minca coffee tour), and the Cocora combination picks up in Armenia, Salento or Filandia (Cocora Valley and coffee farm).

Guests on the pickup

The transfer gets mentioned as often as the farm. Two guests praise a punctual collection and a jeep of their own; one criticises the driver and the car, and one had to leave the farm before the end.

“Totally fabulous adventure , excellent punctual collection at accommodation mini city tour as we collected other passengers (bonus) staff in the finca friendly knowledgeable and passionate about their coffee . …”
